Domain Settings

The options on the Domain Settings screen affect domain-level settings (as opposed to store-level) such as your registration information, how software upgrades are handled, administration interface restrictions, and the appearance of the Store Selection page, where visitors can select from among your stores, if you have several.

Click any of the links below to jump directly to a topic, or scroll to read the entire page:

Information

If you change the domain name of your store, enter the new name here. The new domain name can be up to 100 alphanumeric characters. This will be entered as the default registration if you upgrade or add another store to your domain.

Note: This only effects your registration information. You will also need to update the links specified under Domain Settings / Site Configuration.

Your license number is also available on this screen, along with the version of Miva Merchant that you are running.

Registration

The information you entered during setup is shown here initially. Changes you make on this screen will be transmitted to Miva Corporation when your registration is next updated, such as when you upgrade, or add another store to your domain.

Fields in bold are required. You can change the information in these fields, but they cannot be left blank.

Site Configuration

View and edit the directories and URL paths for your store here.

URLs in bold are required. They can be changed, but cannot be left blank

Mail Server

For Mail Server, enter the address of your Web host's mail server. That is the server that sends out e-mail. This is not an e-mail address. You can get this address from your host. In some cases the host provide this information in an FAQ page. If you cannot find the information on the website, contact the host directly.

Some hosts require that angle brackets enclose the e-mail address. For example, documentation@Miva.com would be entered as <documentation@Miva.com>. Contact your host to find if you need angle brackets.

Mail Method

Some web hosts use an optional commerce library method to send e-mail. If yours does, they will either set this up for you, or will tell you what to enter here. In general, leave this field blank.

Use Strict Validation for Codes

When checked (which is the default), requires entering only alpha numeric characters, the underscore ( _ ) and hyphen ( - ) for the Login and all codes in Miva Merchant, such as the product code, category code, etc. Strict Validation is recommended and is the default.

Caution: If you clear the Use Strict Validation for Codes check box, Miva Merchant wil l allow other characters. However, symbols and punctuation should generally be avoided, and some symbols (such as the %, &, and #) are never allowed for a code. If, after being off, Strict Validation is turned on again, codes which had been valid will become invalid.

Timeouts

Timeouts enable you to set limits on users accessing your administration interface.

Administration Session Timeout

Specify the length of time, in minutes, that an administrator can be inactive before the system logs that user off . The default value is 60 minutes.

If you are working on extended projects, and tend to get called away by customers or phone calls, you might want to set this value higher. For instance, 240 minutes would allow 4 hours of inactivity. On the other hand, if your computer is accessible to others, you might want to specify a shorter time, so that if you are away from your computer for more than 15 minutes you will be logged off automatically.

Failed Login Lockout Time

If someone attempts to log in to your administration account, and fails after a certain number of attempts, Miva Merchant will lock out all attempts to log in for the amount of time you specify here. The default is 15 minutes. This is to discourage hackers and automated processes from continuously trying to log in.

Note: If you are trying to access your administration interface, and it appears that your usual user name and password do not work, it is possible that your account may be locked due to someone else's failed attempts to log in using your user name. If you suspect this may be the case, simply wait the specified amount of time (for instance, 15 minutes), and try again.

Failed Login Attempts Allowed

Enter the number of times an administrative user can attempt to log in, and fail, before that login name is locked out. The default is 3 attempts. If you are prone to mis-typing your name or password, you might want to specify a higher number.

If a user tries to log in, and fails, this number of times, Miva Merchant will lock them out for the amount of time you specified above.

Verify IP Addresses

For added security, the Remote IP address of the user for whom the unique session was created gets recorded is verified at login.

A message in the Administration Interface Main Data area indicates the number of failed login attempts have occurred since your last login. The number of timeouts is also included in this number.

Upload Settings

Specify the types of image files, using file name extensions, that you will permit to be uploaded to your store. This is to prevent others, such as store managers, from uploading possibly harmful, or excessivly large, files. For instance, you might not want to accept uncompressed formats, such as bitmaps (bmp).

The default file types are gif (Graphics Interchange Format), jpg, jpeg (Joint Photographic Experts Group), jpe (jpg with embedded color profile), and xbm (X-Windows bitmap).

Miva Merchant will allow administrators to upload any of the file types you specify here. Any kind of image file that can be displayed by web browsers can be used in your store.

To add or remove acceptable image types from the list, simply edit the text in this field. Separate the extensions using a comma, with no spaces, and do not precede each extension with a period. For example: gif, jpg, jpeg, jpe, xbm

Upgrade Settings

Specify the URL to the server where software upgrades will be accessed, and how often you want Miva Merchant to check for new upgrades.

Store Selection Layout

When you have more than one store in your domain, you will have a screen where users can choose which of the stores they want to visit. The options presented here give you a choice of overall display schemes for your list of stores. Select one, then adjust the particular settings below to customize its look.

Display

Choose how many stores you want to display on each line. For instance, let's say you have 6 stores. If you enter 1 store per line, all of your stores' names will be displayed in a single column. If you specify 3 stores per line, the names of your six stores will be displayed in two rows of three.

The header is anything you want to appear above the store names. You can enter a plain text message here, or HTML code, including image tags, to display your logo, for instance.

Colors

The colors you specify on this screen affect only the Store Selection page, where all the stores in your domain are listed. You can enter colors directly, by their hexadecimal values, such as "#3399CC" or "#FFFFFF", or by HTML-supported color names, such as "black", "olive", or "red". If you prefer, click the color bar button to the right of each field, to select colors directly from a color pallette.

Body Background
Specify a color for the entire Store Selection page background
Body Text
This will be the color for ordinary (non-link) text in your Store Selection page header
Body Link
This color will be applied to the store links.
Body Active Link
While a visitor is clicking down on one of the store links, it will change to this color. If you do not want the color to change, either specify the same color as above, or leave this field blank.
Body Viewed Link
Once a store link has been visited, it will change to the color you enter here.
Navigation Bar Background
This color will be used for the background of the navigation bar across the top of the Store Selection page.

Fonts

Enter the font you want to use for text on the Store Selection page. Keep in mind that some users may not have the font you specify, especially if it is unusual. It is good practice to also specify a secondary font or two, which will be used if your first choice is not available on the user's computer. Separate each font in the list with a comma and a space, like this: Broadway, Verdana, Helvetica

Font sizes are specified relative to a default of 0 (zero). That is, if you want the text to appear somewhat larger than normal, try a value of 1 or 2. For much larger text, experiment with 4, 5, or 6. If you want a smaller size, use a negative number.

Images

There are three places on the Store Selection screen where images can be used. To specify an image, enter the path to the image file (on your server - not on your local computer) here. To upload an image from your computer, if you don't already have it on the server, click Upload. From that Upload File dialog box, you can browse your computer for the image you want. If you do not want to use an image, just leave the field blank.

For the images that appear on the navigation bar, you can use images with transparency to let the background color come through, or solid rectangular images with no transparency. The default images are 15 pixels high. You can follow this example, or use larger or smaller images. The height of the navigation bar will adjust to accomodate the images you specify.

Body Background
You can use a tiled background image under the entire Store Selection page. Subtle, low-contrast images are usually best.
Be sure to look at your page after uploading the image (you may need to click Refresh in your browser window). Be sure that the background does not make the text difficult to read. If it does, and you still want to use the image, you can try using an image editing program to reduce the contrast, reduce the color saturation, brighten (or darken) the image, blur it slightly, or some combination of those effects. When you are satisfied with the look of the image, upload it again - this time selecting Overwrite, so that the new version will replace the one you used initially.
Navigation Bar Logo
This is the leftmost image on the navigation bar. The default, as a placeholder, is the Miva logo. You can replace it with any image you like.
Navigation Bar "Select Store"
Specify an image to use for the Select Store button in the navigation bar.
