Store Layout Elements

These schematic diagrams illustrate where each element is located in a typical store layout. Stores can be highly customized, so this may not match your situation exactly. If contents for an element are not specified, such as for a page header or footer, that element simply does not appear.

The contents of each element can be modified, to varying degrees. For those elements that can display HTML formatted text, such as the headers and footers, you might prefer to create the contents in an HTML editing program, then paste the code into the appropriate field. See the discussion of each, below, for more specific information.

Global Header and Footer

The global header and footer frame the entire store, and appear consistently throughout it (hence the name "global"). These can be as simple or elaborate as you like, from plain text, to HTML formatted areas with graphics and links. The overall look of the store can be determined by careful and creative use of the global header and footer. Making a change here affects every page in the store, in one easy operation.

To edit the global header and footer, click the store name in the left navigation area to go to the Edit Store screen. Select the Global Header & Footer tab. For more information, see Global Header & Footer, under Edit Store.

Note that these are unique to each store. That is, they are store-level features.

Page Headers and Footers

Page headers and footers can be different on each page, to provide content appropriate to the context. That is, you can design one set for the Product Display page, another for the Basket Contents page, and so on. If you choose to not specify a header or footer for a given page, the space where it would go simply will not appear.

To edit the page headers and footers, click Pages in the left navigation area. Locate the page for which you want to create or edit a header and/or footer. Click the Edit button for that page. Select the Header & Footer tab. For more information, see User Interface: Pages & Items.

Main Store Area

The main store area displays a variety of contents, from the storefront welcome message, to product display pages, to the checkout and invoice screens.

Logo and Navigation Bar

The bar across the top of the store screen gives shoppers easy access to commonly used features, such as the storefront page, product list, and checkout screen. Your logo (or any other image you like) can be displayed at the left edge, and provides a customizable link that most merchants use to send shoppers to their company web site. Each button image in the navigation bar can be replaced with your own design, and the background color can be changed.

To edit the navigation bar, and specify a logo image and link, click the store name in the left navigation area to go to the Edit Store screen. Select the Navigation Bar tab. For more information, see Navigation Bar, under Edit Store.

Login Links

The links customers and affiliates will use to log into your store are located here, if you are using these features.

For more information, see Affilitate Links, under Edit Store, and Customer Links, under Edit Store.

Category Tree

This area displays your product categories, in a hierarchical outline, or tree format.

For information on specifying a font for the category tree, see Fonts, under Edit Store. For information on specifying a background color for this area of the store screen, see Misc. Colors, under Edit Store.
